The Department of Computer Science, University of Kerala, was established in 1985. The department offers a diverse range of academic programmes, including B.Sc Hons. Computer Science with Research, M.Sc. Computer Science, M.Sc. Computer Science (with specialization in Artificial Intelligence), M.Sc. Computer Science (with specialization in Machine Learning), M.Tech. Computer Science (with specialization in Digital Image Computing), and Ph.D. Computer Science. Our curriculum aims to incorporate academic foundations with practical applications in key areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, and software engineering. The Department prioritizes research and development in addition to delivering high-quality education. Over the past few years, the department has acquired national and international importance. The department has a history of producing highly skilled professionals, who have secured positions in multinational companies (MNCs), Central/State Universities, Research organizations such as ISRO, C-DAC, and institutions of national importance. Till date, the department has produced more than fifty Ph.Ds. The students and faculty members have published numerous research papers in reputed National, International Journals/Conference Proceedings published by IEEE, Springer, Elsevier, Wiley, etc. The Department is equipped with high-performance computing infrastructure and led by experienced faculty members actively involved in research and industry collaborations. The Department of Computer Science was one of the institutions in Kerala that won the National Award for Best M.Tech. Thesis three times, conferred by the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), New Delhi. The institution was also included in the list of top institutions of the Young Innovators Programme. The faculty members of the Department have been honored with prestigious awards, including the AICTE Career Award for Young Teachers, the IEI Young Engineer Award, and the SSI Young System Scientist Award, among others.

Centre for Data Science & Information Processing

The Centre for Data Science and Information Processing (CDSIP) is an initiative of the University of Kerala for enriching research and development activities in data science and allied domains. The Centre has been equipped with high performance computing facilities for processing huge volume data of any kind and that can be utilized for in-depth research in data analysis and information processing for decision support and social enrichment. The Centre can provide intelligent inputs to the Government bodies and other organizations for better planning and implementation of various Government policies and schemes. With the advancements in machine learning and AI, the Centre can contribute potential research solutions in the future. We are looking ahead to active collaborations with industry, academia, national and international institutes for research and development.
