IEEE Student Branch

A non-profit organization, IEEE is the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology. Through its global membership, IEEE is a leading authority on areas ranging from aerospace systems, computers and telecommunications to biomedical engineering, electric power and consumer electronics among others. Members rely on IEEE as a source of technical and professional information, resources and services. To foster an interest in the engineering profession, IEEE also serves student members in colleges and universities around the world. Other important constituencies include prospective members and organizations that purchase IEEE products and participate in conferences or other IEEE programs.
IEEE activities in Kerala was Initiated on 17 February 1975 as a subsection under the then India section, Kerala subsection became part of the Bangalore Section in 1976 upon formation of India Council. Kerala became a full Section in 1983. The section has been very active since its formation. It has been holding a national or international seminar every year since 1984. As of January 2008, Kerala Section has around 1500 members including student members. The section has a Computer Society Chapter, a Power engineering Society Chapter, a joint Chapter on Industry Applications & Industrial Electronics Societies and a Communication Society Chapter. Two affinity groups called IEEE GOLD and IEEE Women in Engineering are running under this section. Student branches have been established in 20 Engineering Colleges.
The IEEE Region 10, also sometimes referred as the Asia Pacific Region, comprises of 56 Sections, 5 Councils, 8 Sub-sections, 334 Chapters and 490 student branches. It covers a geographical area stretching from South Korea and Japan in the north-east to New Zealand in the south, and Pakistan in the west. With a membership of over 67,000, it is one of the largest regions in IEEE. Our Department is a member of Region 10.
IEEE student Chapter gives students opportunity to meet and learn from fellow students, as well as faculty members and professionals in the field. Student branch activities offer numerous educational, technical and professional advantages of IEEE membership through special projects, activities, meetings, tours and field trips.

The branch formed under the name DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE, UNIVERSITY OF KERALA (DCSKU) branch of IEEE. Membership is limited to graduate students.

Seminar on Web2.0 on March 14th by Prof U Mini (Rajagiri College of Engg, Ernakulam)

Seminar on Advances in image Segmentation Methods on April 3rd by Dr. M.R Kaimal Professor and Head , Department of Computer Science, Kariavattom Campus)

Seminar on Stress management April 12th by Mrs Maya Menon (Department of Psychology, University of Kerala).

Seminar on Medical Image Processing on June 26th by Mr. Jeny Rajan (employee of NeST solutions, an alumnus).

Seminar on DSP for multimedia applications on October 4th by Mr.Gunasekaran (Research Scholar , Department of Computer Science, Kariavattom campus, employee of Tata Elxsi).

Workshop on Computer Hardware conducted by experts from ACCEL IT academy, Trivandrum.

Celebrations of various festivals, and Environment Day activities.

Each year Vacation classes during April- May are conducted on various Computer languages, Web, Microsoft technologies etc. Seminars are also conducted by various personalities as part of IEEE student chapter and Computer Science Association (COSSA). Various Celebrations are also conducted as part of IEEE student chapter and Department Association of our Department.
